Credit Transfer

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale accepts transfer credits from educational institutions accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of Education through the U.S. Department of Education.

Transfer of Credit Policy from Another Institution to The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale

Applicants who have attended accredited post-secondary institutions prior to The Art Institute may apply for transfer of credits. For specific details, contact an admissions counselor directly.

Transfer of Credit Policy from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale to Another Institution

The transferability of Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale academic credits is solely determined by the receiving institution. Some Art Institutes have entered into arrangements with other colleges and universities which may increase the opportunity for transfer of credits to those institutions. Most Art Institute credits are transferable to similar programs at other Art Institutes within The Art Institutes internal system. Likewise, most Art Institute diploma programs credits are transferable to similar Art Institute degree programs. Transfer into the bachelor's degree program at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale requires that the student has earned an associate degree.

Transfer of Credit from International / Non-U. S. Schools

Transfer credits from international/non-U. S. schools generally follow the same guidelines as transfer credits from U. S. postsecondary institutions. Transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Certified translations must accompany the original documents. Please remember to send the original and the certified translation to the Admissions officer.

Credit for Military Service

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale encourages veterans and active-duty service personnel to apply for admission. Credit for military schooling and training may be given for successfully completing certain service schools. The credit awarded may be determined by utilizing the recommendations in A Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services (published by The American Council on Education).

Proficiency / Life Credit

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale recognizes that some students may have exceeded certain course requirements because of their professional experience. This experience and acquired knowledge may be used to receive advanced credit. Credit is awarded based on criteria provided in the college catalog.

CLEP / AP Policy

Students accepted to The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale may acquire credit for a limited number of selected courses, according to the current College Board criteria, through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and/or Advanced Placement (AP) examinations. A minimum score of 3 on any AP examination, or a minimum score of 50 on any CLEP examination, is required for credit toward a course to be awarded. All credit awards will be considered on a case-by-case basis. In the event that a prospective student presents an AP score of 3 or higher or a CLEP score of 50 or higher for non–General Education coursework, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale may request that the student also presents a portfolio demonstrating proficiency.

Non-Collegiate Sponsored Instruction

Prospective students seeking admission to The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale may acquire credit for coursework successfully completed at non-collegiate organizations such as business, industry, professional, and voluntary organizations; government agencies; labor unions; hospitals; and other non-degree-granting organizations. The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale will award credit based on the recommendations established by The National Program on Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction (National PONSI).
