Security on Campus

Students and Parents, Staff, Faculty:

The February 14, 2008 tragedy at Northern Illinois University concerns all of us at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale; therefore, we offer our condolences to the families, classmates, and the college during this sorrowful time.

Incidents such as these hit close to home and remind us of the importance of safety and security for our campus community.

Though we live in a close community, it is important to remember that we are in the middle of a city and it is always wise to keep safety at the top of our minds.

Please remember to take the following precautions at all times:

• Use caution when walking around campus and housing, stay away from dark areas
• Do not walk alone, especially at night. Walk in pairs or groups
• Pay attention to your surroundings as you walk
• Avoid dark areas – stay on well-lit and well-traveled streets
• If something or someone makes you feel uneasy, come to the school as quickly as possible and alert security
• If you park on campus and are uneasy about returning to your car in the dark, ask the security guard to accompany you
• Report any suspicious or unusual activity immediately to the security desks in the Main Building, first floor, or Harbor Walk, first floor.
