Red Carpet Rolled Out for The Art Institute of California — Hollywood
Students design fashions to walk any red carpet.
Los Angeles, California (June 11, 2009) – The Art Institute of California – Hollywood held its annual student fashion show at the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Thursday, June 11, 2009. As a tribute to the “red carpet,” eighteen student designers developed Hollywood themed lines for the show benefitting the Miguel Rocha Jr. Scholarship Fund through the EDMC Education Foundation.
Guests were ushered past barricades into the landmark “Forecourt of the Stars” where they mingled with celebrity impressions before walking the red carpet into the theatre. Tourists crowded along Hollywood Boulevard hoping to glimpse fame. As an unusual twist, well orchestrated models first appeared on pedestals. Using the signature big screen in film venues, fellow students from The Art Institute of California – Los Angeles created designer profiles ran during the show and used a live feed to give everyone a perfect view.
Two new segments were added to the line up this year, a highlight of the local top placing 2009 Art Institutes Passion for Fashion Competition entrants: Danna Darma, Adrienne Koppel, Lionel Siongco, Helen Malveaez, and Geena Andrews and a collection of designs from the fashion design department’s Costume Specialties class.
Featured student collections were judged by industry professional from companies including Trina Turk, American Apparel, 575 Denim, J.C. Penny, School of Style and Andrew Christian, Inc. Christel Infante took home both the Most Marketable and Best Collection awards. Altha St. Clair received the Most Creative award.

The Miguel Rocha Jr. Scholarship Fund
Twenty-five percent of the ticket sales from the fashion show were donated to The Miguel Rocha Jr. Scholarship Fund through the EDMC Education Foundation. The Miguel Rocha Jr. Scholarship Fund awards stipends and tuition scholarships to deserving students for fashion design and fashion marketing and management projects related to college course work or school sponsored competitions and events; such as the portfolio show or annual student fashion show.
The Miguel Rocha Jr. Scholarship Fund was established in memory of a former fashion marketing graduate who was tragically killed by a drunk driver. Miguel and his business partner started a company that produced t-shirts with earth-friendly messages called Cali-Green while he attending The Art Institute of California-Hollywood.
