Intern’s photo published in “Dance Magazine” & “Dance Europe”
Leonle Nerio is an intern at the Houston Ballet. He snaps photos, edits images and watches dancers for inspiration. But times, they are a changing - come November, Nerio’s work will be inspiring others. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography student at The Art Institute of Houston – North, a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, will see his picture of dancer Karina Gonzales published in the November issue of nationally distributed Dance Magazine. This marks the second time his work will be in print; a shot he snapped at a performance of “Taming of the Shrew” was recently published in an issue of Dance Europe for a similar feature on Gonzales. Nerio has attended The Art Institute of Houston – North for four quarters, mastering the craft of capturing stunning action photos in low-light with the aid Brian Bookwalter, an instructor from the college who also serves as his mentor. of an instructor from the college and his mentor, Brian Bookwalter. “This has been an incredible experience and a true privilege,” says Nerio of his role at the Houston Ballet. “Brian has been there to help me perfect my work and I no longer snap blurry images – that’s a big deal.”
Campus President Susanne Behrens shares in the pride of Nerio’s accomplishments, saying “We have been working very closely with the Houston Ballet since the campus opened. We are very proud that the work of one of our students is being featured so prominently. It speaks to the quality of education and talent of our students at The Art Institute of Houston – North.”
