The Art Institute of Houston has an institute-wide Attendance Policy and individual academic departments have their departmental Attendance Policies. Students must observe all attendance policies that are applicable.The Attendance Policy for The Art Institute of Houston consists of two mandatory conditions as follows:

Dismissal from Program
For students enrolled in both day and evening programs, dismissal will occur when a student has missed 20% of total program hours. Dismissal will occur when a student meets the following conditions:
A class with 1 day lab per week – 2 Absences
A class with 2 day labs per week – 3 Absences
A class with 3 day labs per week – 5 Absences
A class that meets once per week – 3 Absences
A class that meets twice per week – 5 Absences

Ten Consecutive Days
A student who has been absent from school for 10 consecutive school days will be terminated from school and there will be no appeal for this condition. However, the student may be granted a leave of absence for documented medical reasons. Only one leave of absence is granted during a calendar year.Please see course syllabi for attendance policies and consequences of missed days.

Attendance Records
Attendance records are collected and maintained in the Registrar’s Office. Students may review and receive a copy of their attendance records by presenting photo identification at the Registrar’s Office.
