New! Design & Technical Graphics Bachelor of Science Degree

In order to keep up with the demands of today's changing marketplace, The Art Institute of Houston is proud to announce our newest program, Design & Technical Graphics. The Design & Technical Graphics program is a 180-hour Bachelor of Science degree program with courses in CAD, enterprise graphics, and technical illustration to help prepare students for careers in architectural, engineering, construction, manufacturing and general business sectors.

The program is unique in that it utilizes aspects of each of the following:
• Graphic Design—However, the graduate creates graphic art, not graphic design.
• Interior Design—However, the graduate creates interior design CAD documents, not interior design.
• Industrial Design—However, the graduate provides industrial design support, not industrial design.
• Web Design—However, the graduate creates information graphics, not information design.
• Animation—However, the graduate creates 3D computer visualization, not 3D computer animation.

Thus, the successful Design & Technical Graphics graduate portfolio will reflect a wide variety of competencies and skills, including the visualization and production skills needed by businesses whose communications requirements change daily.

Design & Technical Graphics graduates may work in engineering firms (civil, structural, mechanical, process), manufacturing companies, natural resource & energy companies, retail sales companies, home builders and developers, publishing companies, and general business firms. Graduates will be prepared for the following entry-level positions: CAD draftsperson / designer / technician / operator, architectural draftsperson, 3-D rendering artist, media production coordinator, visualization specialist, product designer/development illustrator and more.

The Art Institute of Houston is one of The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), a system of over 40 education institutions located throughout North America, providing an important source of design, media arts, fashion and culinary arts professionals.
