Organizations & Activities
It is the philosophy of The Art Institute of Houston that participation in extracurricular activities enhances your educational experience. The school supports student participation in student-based organizations. We encourage student participation in groups such as The American Society of Interior Designers, the Great Chefs Club, National Technical Honor Society and Student Government.
It is the policy of The Art Institute of Houston to allow students the freedom to choose participation in student activities. However, the school requires a faculty/staff member or department director's supervision or sponsorship of any student activity or organization.
The Student Government represents all Art Institute of Houston students and is the primary vehicle for student participation in institutional decision-making. Student Government acts as a voice on behalf of the student body and sponsors speakers, workshops, seminars and other activities. All students are eligible to belong to Student Government.
If a student or a group of students seek change or have a request that will impact the student body as a whole, Student Government serves as a forum for discussion and decision-making. First, an issue or request must be brought to Student Government. After discussion, the item is brought to a vote. If ratified, Student Government works on a proposal to be submitted to the Student Success Committee. This written document must reflect any background information, student polls, cost analysis or other pertinent information that will support Student Government's request. The Student Success Committee meets to review the proposal. If approved by the Student Success Committee, The Student Success Chair submits the proposal to the Executive Committee for approval. If accepted by the Executive Committee, the request can be implemented. All decisions made by the Executive Committee are final.
The National Technical Honor Society is another student group that provides input to The Art Institute administration. For more information about this organization visit the Faculty Advising Center, or for information on other school clubs, visit the Student Affairs office.
