History
The Art Institute of Houston trains students in Media Arts & Animation,
Culinary Arts, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Web Design & Interactive Media, and
Restaurant & Catering Management. From its founding in 1965 until joining
The Art Institutes system of schools in 1978, The Art Institute of Houston
was known as the Houston School of Commercial Art. In December 1990, the school
moved to its current facility at 1900 Yorktown in the Galleria area.
Accreditation & Licensing
The Art Institute of Houston is accredited by the
Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award Associate of
Applied Science, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of

The Art Institute is authorized
by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to award Associate of Applied
Art and Associate of Applied Science degrees. The Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board has granted a certificate of Authority to The Art Institute
of Houston to award the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Interior
Design, Graphic Design and Media Arts & Animation.
The Associate of Applied
Science degree in Culinary Arts is accredited by the American Culinary Federation
(ACF).
The Interior Design program leading to the Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree is accredited by the Council for
