Who will be my roommate?
As much as possible, roommates are assigned based on the common interests and habits listed on the housing application.

What about utilities?
The cost of electricity and local telephone service is included in the overall fees for housing.

Is there security in housing?
Yes. Art Institute apartments are located in gated communities. In addition, professional staff student resident assistants live among students in housing and are available to assist 24 hours. 7 to 9 Houston Police Department Officers live on-site to patrol the grounds and present crime prevention programs to students.

Is parking available?
Yes. Parking is free at The Park at Voss, however, students must register their cars at The Art Institute of Houston's campus.

What furnishings are provided?
Each apartment is furnished with beds, dressers, a sofa, chair, dining table and chairs, refrigerator, and stove.

Can I bring my own furniture?
Students are prohibited, unless receiving prior permission in writing from The Art Institute of Houston housing staff, from bringing any additional furniture into a housing unit.

How many students live in an apartment?
The most common housing arrangement is a two bedroom apartment shared by four students. We do offer a single bedroom occupancy in a two bedroom and single studio unit.

Can I receive accommodations for my disability in student housing?
If you are a student who has a documented disability as defined in the American's with Disabilities Act of 1990, you may be eligible to receive housing accommodations. You should first apply and be accepted at The Art Institute of Houston and apply for college housing. Once you have received housing confirmation, notify the disabilities services coordinator of your request for accommodations. If special additions are needed you must pay your housing deposit before the
alterations will be made.

What if I don't drive?
Houston's public transportation system, METRO, serves the Houston area with bus and rail service. The METRO buses stop one block from the entrance to The Park at Voss. The #82 bus runs 24 hours a day Monday through Sunday. Discounted bus passes are sold in Student Affairs at The Art Institute of Houston's campus.

May I bring my own computer?
Although computers connected to the Internet are available in the Computer Lab at The Art Institute, you are welcome to bring your own.

How do I establish cable or Internet service?
We do not provide cable or Internet service in our school sponsored housing program. Comcast (713-341-1000) is your cable service provider. You may contact them for options and rates. Internet service is available on campus in the computer labs. Your apartment phone line is not set up for DSL or Dial-Up. In order to obtain DSL or Dial-Up, you must obtain an additional phone service for your apartment at a cost to you. Southwestern Bell (800-464-7928) is one of the many telephone service providers that you can contact for more information.

What should I bring?
Aside from personal items, you may want to bring linens, kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, an alarm clock, an umbrella, stereo/radio and television set.

Can housing fees be included in my financial aid package?
The cost of Art Institute housing can, in most cases, be included in your financial aid package.

What is my new address?
Your address will be provided at Housing Check/Move-in.

What is my new phone number?
You will receive free basic local telephone service. There is a block on long distance calls, so you will need to use a phone card to make long distance phone calls. You will receive your phone number and how to use phone options the day of housing check/move-in.

What is an "RLC"?
The Resident Life Coordinator is a member of the housing management team. He/she is here to assist you in all aspects of student life at our residence.

In case of an emergency whom should I contact?
If possible try to notify the Resident Life Coordinator first, or the complex security guard on duty. If you cannot find help, call 911 or the complex main office.

What should I do if I have a maintenance request?
Maintenance Staff is on duty from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Friday. You should contact your Resident Life Coordinator.

Help! I have bugs in my apartment!
Pest control service is available twice a week. Residents only need to call and have their apartment scheduled on the next service date. We suggest students use preventative measures by taking out the trash regularly and not leaving food on plates, in pots and pans, or on the counter tops.

Do we offer housekeeping services?
Students can request maid service through the housing staff at any time for a minimal fee. During the quarterly breaks the housing staff will schedule maid service and carpet cleaning for apartments that will be expecting a new roommate.

Can I move in early?
No. Students cannot move in before the scheduled move in date due to maid service, carpet cleaning and preparing your apartment for roommates. This is done in between quarters during the break.

Do we have planned events and activities?
The Housing Staff along with the Resident Life Coordinator plan events and activities every quarter. This information is shared at the Quarterly Housing Meetings, during the second and third week of every quarter.
