Local College Introduces New Bachelor Program in Media Arts & Animation
INDIANAPOLIS (August 20, 2007) – The Art Institute of Indianapolis today introduces a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts & Animation. This is the seventh new program offering the school has rolled out in the last 18 months. It demonstrates the school’s continued commitment to bringing high-quality commercial art education to the Indianapolis community.
The Media Arts & Animation program prepares graduates for entry-level careers as animation artists, special effects artists, broadcast graphics designers and video post-production editors. The Bachelor’s degree program offers students the practical experience and education needed to produce digital illustrations and special effects for booming markets such as film, television and gaming. Animation is a unique and specialized skill-set that is rapidly gaining popularity in industries such as engineering, life sciences, manufacturing and architecture. Corporate environments commonly use technical animations to make abstract and complex concepts more tangible and easy-to-understand. Business applications for animation include technical training, software tutorials, product and service demonstrations, virtual tours and event simulations.
“A degree in Media Arts & Animation will help graduates gain a foothold in the intersecting worlds of art and technology,” said Madeleine Slutsky, president of The Art Institute of Indianapolis. “Our program provides students with the tools to blend their creative and technical talents while preparing them for real-world experiences. Graduates are equipped with career-focused, entry-level skills that have practical applications to enter this creative, high-tech profession.”
The school’s Media Arts & Animation degree is grounded with experienced faculty and proven curriculum developed by leaders in the animation industry. The program teaches animation fundamentals including an introduction to theory and practice of characterization, scriptwriting, storyboarding, sculpture, animation, 3-D modeling and computer graphic design. Students develop advanced skills in various aspects of computer graphics and animation and graduate with digital portfolios, which demonstrate their practical and technical capabilities to potential employers. Graduates will be poised to help Indianapolis companies use digital animation to take abstract concepts and turn them into powerful, three dimensional business tools.
