Pete Patsiavos Appointed Dean of Academic Affairs

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — December 8, 2006) The Art Institute of Jacksonville president Erika Orris has announced the selection of Pete Patsiavos as dean of academic affairs for Jacksonville’s new higher education institution. The Art Institute of Jacksonville is one of The Art Institutes, an educational institution with 32 locations in North America that has been providing programs in the creative and applied arts for more than 40 years. Classes at The Art Institute of Jacksonville are scheduled to begin January 8, 2007.
“Pete brings a wealth of valuable experience to The Art Institute of Jacksonville,†said Orris. “We know that his knowledge and skills will play a major role in developing and maintaining a first-rate educational and creative experience for our students.â€
Patsiavos comes to Jacksonville from The Art Institute of Portland, where he was the dean responsible for developing and implementing student assessment initiatives, as well as hiring and developing faculty. Prior to his position at The Art Institute of Portland, he served as the academic department director for media arts & animation at The Art Institutes International Minnesota.
Patsiavos has more than 14 years of faculty experience, including positions at Savannah College of Art and Design and Lee County Schools in Fort Meyers, Fla., before working in Minneapolis and Portland. He has a degree in industrial design from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s of fine arts from Savannah College of Art and Design. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in educational leadership at Capella University.
The Art Institute of Jacksonville is currently enrolling students, and the first day of classes is slated for January 8, 2007. Initially, The Art Institute of Jacksonville will offer bachelor’s degree programs in Graphic Design, Interactive Media Design and Interior Design, and associate’s degree programs in Graphic Design and Interactive Media Design, with plans to add a Culinary Arts program in the second year. The school will occupy approximately 47,000 square feet at 8775 Baypine Road in the Baymeadows-I-95 area, providing ample room for students to develop their creative and technical skills during their time at the school.
The Art Institutes have three additional locations in Florida: The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, The Art Institute of Tampa, and Miami International University of Art & Design.
