First-time Students

Students attending college for the first time and pursuing their first associate's or bachelor's degree must complete the following in order to begin the enrollment process:

1. Personal interview. Students are required to meet with an assistant director of admissions. A telephone interview can fulfill this requirement under certain circumstances. The purpose of the interview is to explore the student's background interests as they relate to the Art Institute's programs, to assist the student in identifying the appropriate area of study consistent with his or her background and interests, and to provide information concerning the curriculum and support services at the Art Institute.

2. Complete application for admission, including one 150-word essay, and an enrollment agreement.

3. High school transcript or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) test scores. Transcripts must show grades for all years of high school attended and date of graduation. An applicant still in high school will be considered for early acceptance contingent upon proof of graduation. Transcripts should be mailed or faxed directly to the college. Before a student may begin studies at The Art Institute of California, Los Angeles, he or she must have received a diploma from a regionally accredited high school, demonstrating satisfactory completion of state high school equivalency requirements, or a GED. A certificate of attendance or completion is not acceptable.

4. Official report of SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer scores. If the applicant has not taken any of these tests prior to application, the Accuplacer test may be taken free of charge at The Art Institute of California, Los Angeles .

5. Portfolio - A portfolio is required for those students applying to the Game Art & Design program. Additionally, high school seniors entering the annual Art Institute Scholarship competition will have to provide a portfolio. Work experience in the food service or hospitality industry is not required for culinary applicants.

6. Cumulative GPA - Applicants to the Game Art & Design program must have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 from high school or have achieved a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in at least 24 semester or 36 quarter credits at an accredited college or university.

7. A $50 non-refundable application fee must accompany the application and a $100 refundable enrollment fee.
