Summary:   This position is responsible for providing vision, leadership and strategic direction for student affairs at the school. Will ensure the delivery of effective and quality service to students in the following areas: student housing, counseling, student conduct, student life programs and disability services. This position provides advice and counsel to the President and other Executive Committee members regarding overall student morale and serves as the primary advocate for the student body. Supports the decisions and utilizes the recommendations made by our parent company, Education Management Corporation. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.


Key Job Elements:

1. Develop short and long range vision for the department, lead department staff in the implementation of plans and oversee development, coordination and dissemination of department policies and procedures

  1. Create and coordinate department publications such as the Student Handbook and the Campus Crime Report. Ensure all publications meet Business Practices Committee standards
  2. Overall responsibility for Student Affairs Department budget
  3. Assure housing services are developed and maintained while promoting a residential life concept
  4. Assure student counseling services and proactive intervention programs are provided
  5. Oversee support services for international students and special needs/ADA
  6. Provide first line contact and problem resolution for parents, students and others and assure that a variety of student life opportunities are offered to all students
  7. Develop and implement a student judicial system; serve as Chief Conduct Officer of the school
  8. Work collaboratively with Executive Committee and all other departments on achieving school objectives for enrollment and persistence
  9. Assures that there is student affairs representation on the Student Success Committee. Work collaboratively with CS functional department head to accomplish student affairs goals and objectives. Other duties as assigned.

Reports To:  President serves on the Institution’s Executive Committee

Supervises:  Counselors, Director of Housing, Student Development Coordinator

Interacts With:  Faculty, students, staff and executive committee

Job Requirements:

Knowledge:
a) A Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Administration or other related field is required.
b) Five to seven years of related increasing responsibility in student affairs preferably in a post-secondary institution or for-profit environment.
c) Knowledge of current practices and theories in student affairs in higher education
d) Prior experience in developing departmental budgets either through span of control or as a contributor.

d) Strong computer and analytical skills.

Abilities:

c) Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
d) Good general business knowledge and ability to effectively supervise and lead a staff of professionals.
