Admissions

International Students

All international students must meet the same admissions standards as all other students. In addition, international students must demonstrate competence in the English language. An international student seeking to enroll at The Art Institute of California — Los Angeles in valid F-1 nonimmigrant status must submit each of the following items:

  1. A completed and signed application form, including one150-word essay, and enrollment agreement.
  2. Original or official copies of all educational transcripts (high school and post-secondary academic records) and diplomas with graduation date, translated into English (official photocopies are acceptable).
  3. Proof of English language proficiency:

    •  A minimum TOEFL score of 500 paper-based or 173 computer-based or 61 Internet-based.
    •  Please contact the Admissions office for acceptable alternatives to the TOEFL.

  4. Official bank statements. Bank statements must verify sufficient funds to cover the cost of the educational program for the first year as well as all living expenses. (Bank statements not be older then six months prior to the program start date.)
  5. A completed and signed confidential statement of financial support (not required if the applicant is self-sponsored).
  6. A photocopy of the applicant's passport identification page to provide proof of birth date and citizenship (birth certificate is acceptable if the applicant does not already have a passport).
  7. For all nonimmigrant applicants residing in the U.S. at the time of application:

    •  A photocopy of the I-94 card (both sides).
    •  A photocopy of the current visa stamp in your passport.

  8. For all applicants residing in the U.S. at the time of application in F-1 nonimmigrant status:

    •  A completed International Student Transfer Clearance Form (confirmation of previous status by transfer out school).
    • A photocopy of the current I-20.

  9. You must be prepared to provide proof of health insurance, or to purchase health insurance through an approved Art Institute of California — Los Angeles provider upon beginning your studies.

After you have been fully accepted and have submitted all of the above documents, you will be issued a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 Nonimmigrant Student).

The Art Institute of California — Los Angeles is authorized under federal law to enroll nonimmigrant students.
