School’s faculty, staff and students will raise crayons and supplies for local at-risk children

TROY, Mich. – October, 2011 – The Art Institute of Michigan — Troy, a new school offering students a convenient and dynamic environment in which to study creative arts disciplines, announced it will host a crayon-raiser from Oct. 10 – 25 for Operation: Kid Equip.  The crayon-raiser supports the nonprofit organization’s mission to provide the basic school needs for children of low-income families.

“At The Art Institute of Michigan — Troy, we are committed to providing students with educational opportunities that will help prepare them for creative and rewarding careers,” said Turner Berg, campus director for The Art Institute of Michigan — Troy.  “We are delighted to support a worthwhile nonprofit organization like Operation: Kid Equip that shares our philosophy for helping students to succeed.”

As part of the crayon-raiser, The Art Institute of Michigan — Troy faculty, staff and students will reach out to their families, friends, churches and local community organizations in an effort to raise a total of 500 boxes of crayons.  In addition, the school will be open to members of the community who would like to show their support by making in-person donations at its Troy campus.

Donations of crayons and other school supplies will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon. through Fri., at The Art Institute of Michigan — Troy located at 1414 E. Maple Rd.  All donations received will be presented to Operation: Kid Equip during a private grand opening celebration at The Art Institute of Michigan — Troy on Oct. 26.

“We are truly humbled by the continued support from the community and valued partners like The Art Institute of Michigan — Troy,” said Menachem Michael Kniespeck, president and CEO of Operation: Kid Equip.  “Unfortunately, many local families are faced with limited resources when it comes to providing the tools for students to succeed and at Operation: Kid Equip we are proud to do our part.”
