Graphic Design

 Carlos Dominguez

Carlos Dominguez, class of 2002, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design. Immediately after graduation, Carlos landed a position as graphic designer in the advertising department at Perry Ellis International. There he provides creative support to departments under the Perry Ellis umbrella, such as designing labels and trims for the fashion division, to newsletters for employee reference. Carlos also creates outdoor advertising, magazine ads, catalogs, presentation boards and books for Perry Ellis’s marketing efforts.

He chose Miami International University of Art & Design out of all the universities in South Florida due to its reputation for qualified instructors, the opportunity to learn in a small classroom environment and the level of technology available to students.

Dominguez enjoys the work of a graphic designer because of the variety that each day provides. He is able to apply his creativity to clothing, print and television. Carlos worked diligently learning all programs required in the field to become a successful part of the Perry Ellis team. His advice to students is to put great effort into their portfolio. “A portfolio is very crucial for a designer’s career and survival,” says Dominguez. “Read many design books for ideas and inspiration.”

Humberto Areas

Humberto Areas joined Majestic Properties after receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Miami International University of Art & Design in 2002 and his associate’s degree from Miami Dade College. As an alumnus, Humberto has been invited by Miami International University of Art & Design to serve as a panelist to critique the portfolios of graduating students, an honor based upon his academic record and his current level of employment.

In 2005, Humberto assumed the position of Senior Graphic Designer for Majestic Properties, where he oversees the graphic department’s day-to-day operations. His current responsibilities at Majestic Properties include advertising, design and production for local and national newspapers and magazines. Every quarter he pushes up his sleeves to coordinate the production and lay-out for Majestic MATCH, a team effort between all of Majestic’s designers, where he holds the title of Creative Art Director and Director of Production. Majestic MATCH is a quarterly lifestyle magazine that combines real estate, architecture, interior design trends and fashion published by Majestic Properties, with 20,000 copies in circulation.

Carlos Collazos

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design (2006)

Carlos Collazos completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design in 2006 at Miami International University of Art & Design. Carlos feels that his education and the graphic design curriculum definitely prepared him for his current position and future career as a designer. “School gave me a lot of confidence to believe in myself and to bring the best out of me in regards to design. I enjoyed every moment I was there and think that Miami International University of Art & Design is a great place for people that love the arts.”

Carlos has made quite impression at Royal Atlantic Developers, working as their in-house graphic designer since graduation. Royal Atlantic Developers has a background in exporting flowers from Ecuador to 41 different countries. In the recent years Royal Atlantic Developers has diversified and has begun to successfully work in the real estate business. Current projects are located in Miami, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Carlos works closely with the Present and CEO of the company to develop all corporate folders, logos, brochures, banners, poster, stands and photography.

Even though Carlos works in a corporate environment, he has full creative control of all projects and loves the freedom the company has given him. “It has been a great experience for me since I am in constant contact with everybody, from printers to the CEO.” Carlos believes that he has the tools as a graphic designer but now it is just up to him to deliver.
