Carolina Salazar
Carolina Salazar, class of 1991, graduated with her associate degree at Miami International University of Art & Design and continued her education at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, ultimately receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. Carolina is currently the Administrative Assistant of Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs for the Miami International Airport. There she assists in curating and exhibiting art in the gallery as well as in other exhibitions throughout the airport. Carolina also researches public art projects and chooses pieces to be showcased at the airport.
Originally from Bogota, Colombia, Carolina came to Miami at an early age and enhanced her creative passions locally. As a professional, Carolina has advanced herself in the artistic field through her position as Exhibitions Director for Art Center South Florida for several years before moving onto her current role at Miami International Airport. As an artist, her work has been showcased throughout Florida with exhibits at various centers including the Dorsch Gallery in Miami, the Old Capital Gallery in Tallahassee, the Von Liebig Art Center in Naples and the Deland Museum of Art. Her exhibits have been reviewed extensively in local publications such as the Miami New Times, the Miami Herald and the Coral Gables Gazette documenting the success of her shows.
Carolina says that attending Miami International University of Art & Design paved the road to her success. “I had two incredible professors who I remember fondly, Adnan Razack and Mr. Yapur. They really brought out the best in every student and definitely were a source of inspiration to me.”
Mimi Botscheller
Master of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Arts (2004)
Mimi Botscheller is a prolific artist and educator residing in Pompano Beach, Florida. Mimi graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts from Miami International University of Art & Design in fall 2004. While attending MIU, she completed mural works for both Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital both located in Broward County. She also interned at the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery in Miami and worked with the gallery to organize their Art Basel events.
Mimi has displayed her work in several group exhibitions including Quiet, Connectivity, Femi-nine, Deck the Walls, Private Spaces, Frenzy, 53rd Annual All Florida Competition, 2004 Strathmore Art Contest and Lucid. Mimi continues to work on her business venture, Botscheller Studio, which focuses on both art and design. In addition to her gallery participation and business, she has her work displayed in several private and community collections.
Mimi’s continued involvement with both Dade and Broward county artists has made her a mentor and inspiration to new local artists. She has worked with several classmates in group exhibitions and has beautified community spaces with her art. Mimi is still involved with the Art Institutes and is an instructor at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
