The PLUS program is for students who want to take classes on-campus + online simultaneously. Instead of the normal participation, here you will regularly post your homework to a discussion board and be required to respond to your classmates' work.
Taking classes is convenient, but not easy. Each course runs 5 1/2 weeks. You guessed it - double time. The work load is twice as intense as the on-campus equivalent courses, but you sure will learn a lot!
Online courses have a few benefits. One, they are easy to fit into your schedule. This can be your busy home and work life or when there is a conflict with an on-campus course. Two, commuting is easier -- it is lighter on your gas bill and you avoid traffic. Three, you can log on any time from any place. The catch there is that you still have four assignments a week due on deadline.
There are a few important things to know about taking courses through our PLUS program:
If you have a 2.5 GPA and are self-motivated you will be considered for an online course, maybe more than one.
Absences are based on the number of days per week that you sign in and post to eCollege. You need to sign in a minimum of four out of seven. A day runs from 5:00am - 5:00am the next day.
You must be enrolled in both sessions if you are going to register as an online-only student for a Quarter.
Here's what you do to get started:
1) Plan your curriculum with your Student Advisor.
2) Register with Dana Gelman, your Online Advocate.
3) Attend the Miami International University of Art & Design Online Seminar, where you get the details about being a PLUS student.
4) Sign the Consortium and technology requirements Agreements.
5) Read and sign-off on PLUS Program Policies.
6) Take the Ai Online Orientation, which is a tutorial for using the e-classroom (called eCollege).
7) Go to class.
