First-Time Students

1. Personal interview. Students are required to meet with the department chair of admissions. A telephone interview can fulfill this requirement under certain circumstances. The purpose of the interview is to explore the student’s background and interests and how they relate to the college's programs, to assist the student in identifying the appropriate area of study consistent with his or her background and interests, and to provide information concerning the curriculum and support services at the college.

2. Complete application for admission, including essay. (See application booklet or web site.)

3. High school transcript or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) test scores.Transcripts must show grades for all years of high school attended and date of graduation. An applicant still in high school will be considered for early acceptance contingent upon proof of graduation. The admissions committee reviews transcripts to ensure that the cumulative grade point average of the applicant demonstrates their ability to successfully complete an academic program at the college level. Transcripts should be mailed or faxed directly to the college. Before a student may begin studies at Miami International University of Art & Design, he or she must have received a diploma from a regionally accredited high school or a state-approved home school program, demonstrating satisfactory completion of state high school equivalency requirements, or earned a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). A certificate of attendance or completion is not acceptable.

4. Official report of Accuplacer test scores. SAT, or ACT test scores can be used in place of the Accuplacer test. If the applicant has not taken any of these tests prior to application, the Accuplacer test may be taken free of charge at Miami International University of Art & Design. When taking ACT please use code number 6118; for the SAT, code number 5327, to have scores reported directly to the college.

NOTE: A portfolio of the student’s artwork is not required for admission, but is required for high school seniors entering the annual scholarship competition. (See “Scholarships” for more information.)

5. A non-refundable application fee of $50 is due when an applicant applies. An enrollment fee of $100 is due upon signing an Enrollment Agreement. These fees apply to new applicants as well as transferring and international students. All monies paid by applicants will be refunded if they are not accepted for admissions. All monies paid by applicant will be refunded if requested by the applicant within five days after signing a Enrollment Agreement and making an initial payment. Applicants requesting cancellation no later than 90 days before the first scheduled class date will receive a refund of all monies paid less the $50 application fee. Applicants who give less than 90 days cancellation notice will be entitled to a refund of all monies paid to the college, less a cancellation fee of $150 which includes application and enrollment fees. All monies paid by applicants will be returned, if requested, within three business days after their first visit to the school or within three business days of the regularly scheduled orientation program for their starting quarter, whichever is sooner. Refunds will be made within 30 calendar days after the applicant’s/student’s request.
