[MIAMI, FL – June 25, 2012] In collaboration with Perry Ellis International, Inc., Miami International University of Art & Design Fashion students were selected to showcase guayabera-inspired fashions as part of the HistoryMiami Museum exhibit, “The Guayabera: A Shirts Dream.” The exhibit will be on display beginning on June 28, 2012 and continue through January 13, 2013, with the opening reception taking place on Guayabera Day, July 1, 2012 in the Miami-Dade Cultural Center plaza located in downtown Miami.
The exhibit will offer a historical timeline that presents the origins of the Guayabera and its evolution through time, including influential designers, photographers, and the personalities that adopted it as their own. It will also highlight the iconic elements of the guayabera as seen by its original creators and designers.
Miami International University of Art & Design students in the fashion programs will display the guayabera-inspired garments showcased during last fall’s Perry Ellis International’s Hispanic Heritage kick-off event.
“Our students are thrilled to show their guayabera inspired designs and participate in this historical exhibit of the iconic guayabera – we are honored to once again be working with Perry Ellis International,” says Charlene Parsons, chair of the Fashion programs at Miami International University of Art & Design.
