It was this experience and familiarity with printing, as well as a portfolio that highlighted typesetting and layout skills that helped Tom land the job as a production artist at Norwood Promotional Products. As a production artist, Tom is responsible for preparing the customer’s art files for print. This involves ensuring and modifying the artwork to meet the printing standards and setting the artwork into templates for the printing press. Norwood Promotional Products is a company that produces a wide range of promotional items such as mugs, pens, magnets, etc. What Tom enjoys most about his job is the demand for quality work at a high volume because it pushes him to improve his knowledge of various programs and tools in order to work more quickly and effectively.

Tom offers the advice; “Get the most out of your classes, even the ones you don’t like, especially the ones you don’t like, because you will find that your career will force you to draw upon everything you’ve ever learned and then some. Most important, buck up and do your work to the best of your ability. You don’t get to choose your projects most days, and there is zero tolerance for slacking.”
