A student seeking to enroll at The Art Institute of New York City must be a high school graduate or hold a general equivalency diploma (GED) as a prerequisite for admission.

To apply for admission, prospective students must have an in-person interview with an Admissions Representative. The interview may be conducted by telephone if the applicant is more than 200 miles from the school. The purpose of the interview is to:

  • explore the prospective new student's interests as they relate to the school´s programs.
  • help prospective students identify the appropriate area of study consistent with their background and interests.
  • provide information about curricula and support services available at The Art Institute of New York City.
