Guest Speakers
Back
Gen Ed Department Chair John Mancuso recently arranged for two speakers to enrich students’ experience. Larry Trager spoke to students about tapping into the unadvertised job market. He estimates that 94% of jobs are never advertised, and therefore almost impossible to get without some sort of proactive strategy. Mr. Trager showed the students some useful ways to search the internet to find contacts in these competitive fields, specifically focusing on professional organizations, conferences and trade shows. Additionally, he reinforced the value of networking, even in unlikely situations.
Writer, Director, Actor Melissa Maxwell roused students with reading from her own work, also leading them through exercises focusing on the creative writing process. Ms. Maxwell has a long list of film, television, and theater credits, and has a lot to offer our students.
