COMPUTER LAB

We encourage you to use the computer labs while studying at The Art Institute of New York City. The technology team at AiNYC is here to ensure your access to the hardware and software required to successfully complete your education. We have found that most successful students plan their time well and increase their skill and proficiency by working on the computers as much as possible. The computer labs are located on the 2nd floor in the Beach St. buildings, and are overseen in a combinedeffort by the Technology Department and the Department of Academic Affairs.

The labs are available to both current students with a valid school ID. Graduates are also invited to utilize labs, but are considered guests of AiNYC and are required to register with security in order to gain access. Graduates are not allowed to use the labs the final two weeks of the quarter. All AiNYC faculty and staff have access to computer labs and equipment. Due to the volume of students enrolled in classes, current students will be given priority access to equipment at the discretion of the school.

SOFTWARE AND HOURS

We purchase computer hardware and software in conformity with a system standard used by Art Institute Schools. In conjunction with the Director of Technology, the Faculty Technology Committee recommends hardware and software needs based on curriculum adopted by the school. Unless otherwise announced, computer lab hours are:

Monday-Friday 7:30am-10:30pm

Saturday 9:00am-3:30pm

Sunday Closed

Additional lab hours are provided beginning mid quarter and labs will be open the last three Sunday’s of each quarter. Extended lab hours and exceptions will be posted, as they made available and closing times are strictly enforced. Please use the labs throughout the quarter. Computer labs are closed on school holidays and quarter breaks. Misuse and/or abuse of the Internet at Art Institute of New York City can lead to expulsion and or legal action against you.

The Art Institute of New York City’s students are entitled to the same library services available to Metropolitan College students, which include use of the library facility, access to the computerized information retrieval services and inter-library loans.

The library contains approximately 25,000 volumes, including bound periodicals and government publications, as well as materials in other formats, including audiovisual items. The Art Institute of New York City’s collection is housed within the Metropolitan College Library, and contains specialized subject matter in the areas of cooking and baking, hospitality management, food service, general business management and planning, the food industry, wine and wine services, meat cutting, nutrition, food production, gastronomy, world cuisines, career management and employment searches. Periodicals covering graphic design, multi-media web design, fashion, and video production are also available. Videotapes covering all of the above subjects and a wide range of industry journals and periodicals are also accessible.

LOCKERS

Each student enrolled in a culinary or pastry course will be assigned a locker on the first day of class.  He/she is responsible for cleaning out the locker and returning the lock at the end of his/her last day of kitchen class if the next quarter’s schedule does not contain a kitchen class. Failure to do so will result in a fee of $25 for storage of student’s items. You may not replace the schoolissued lock. Non-school locks will be removed, and the locker will be emptied. Students who terminate or who are withdrawn must clean out their locker and return the lock to the Security department. A new lock will be assigned upon a student’s return. Every precaution is taken to protect the property of students, but The Art Institute of New York City is not liable for lost or stolen articles.

PHOTO IDENTIFICATION CARDS

A photo ID card is issued to each student. Uses of the card include the following: Checking out training equipment, participating in certain student activities, checking out library materials, and registering for classes.
