Academic Director — Interior Design
With more than twenty years of commercial and residential, practical and education experience, veteran Interior Designer Ronni Whitman heads the Interior Design program at The Art Institute of California,Orange County.
Ronni is a skilled practitioner who possesses a strong knowledge of both commercial and residential design with a passion for teaching. She brings to the department a high-level of practical and education interior design experience that crosses all areas of design coupled with an enthusiasm for the field that motivates and inspires students.
Prior to joining The Art Institute, Ronni served as Educational Facility Planner for NTD Architects in Auburn, Calif. where she coordinated new schools and modernization projects as the architect's liaison to various K-12 and Community College districts.
She was an Assistant Professor at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., in the Interior Design Program. There she taught four levels of Interior Design Studio, Drafting and Presentation Skills, Contract and Commercial Design, Housing and Proxemics Seminar as well as History of Furniture and Architecture. She also developed and implemented new curriculum, served as academic adviser and prepared for the department's FIDER accreditation.
Ronni spent five years as Director of Interior Design and Assistant Professor in the Fine Arts Department at Russell Sage College/JCA in Albany, N.Y. She has also served as Supervisor of Facility planning for Wake County Public Schools in Raleigh, N.C., where she managed a $700 million, eight-year new building and renovation project. The Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School, which was a part of the Wake County Public Schools project, has received the Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance from the City of Raleigh, the Appearance Honor Roll Award from the Raleigh Citizen Advisory Council and a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency National Smart Growth Achievement Award — the first school in the nation to receive the EPA award.
Throughout her career, Ronni has maintained a vital planning and design consulting business for residential and commercial clientele. She is certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications, she holds a Master of Science in Interior Design from Florida State University, and has a Bachelor of Science in Theatre Arts from Rutgers University, Magna Cum Laude. She is a professional member of American Society of Interior Designers, International Interior Design Association, and Interior Design Educators Council.
