Academic Department Director (ADD) If you have held positions of increasingly responsible experience in the industry and/or academic affairs, consider The Art Institute of California - Orange County. As principal academic officer for the Bachelor's degree program in Game Art & Design and Visual & Game Programming, the ADD will be responsible for day-to-day operations, assisting students toward successful program completion and staffing classrooms with instructors who support the school mission. The ADD is co-responsible with the Dean of Academic Affairs for the fiscal well-being of the department as it relates to education.
Key job elements include providing academic leadership, as well as selecting, training, developing and managing faculty and staff. This position will also support college and community relations activities while planning and implementing a budget that includes personnel requirements, program expenses and capital needs. The selected candidate will possess a Master's degree and a minimum 3-5 years' related experience. Advanced certifications or credits towards further study are highly preferred. Fiscal and personnel management experience required. We are seeking a candidate with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills. Must be able to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities and tasks. Strong computer literacy in MS Office required.
The bachelor's degree program in Game Art & Design prepares graduates for careers in the game and other industries as 2-D and 3-D artists, texture mappers and project managers. With experience and advancement, some graduates may become game and level designers. Graduates will work as members of development teams to produce digital games, interactive entertainment and educational and training software products.
The bachelor's degree program in Visual & Game Programming provides students an opportunity to study a unique combination of artistic and technical skills much needed in the industry of game development. After intensive training in the foundations of art and design for animated games, students enter into the more technical areas of programming for animated 3D graphics. Students learn the essential skills to effectively solve technical problems and play the indispensable role of bridging between the technical programmer and the creative artist. With an advantage of having their artistic talent combined with the knowledge and skills of programming for 3-D development, shading, motion capture and animation, the students of this program will have an edge in finding a wide range of employment opportunities in the entertainment and game production industries.
