Art Institute Students Take Part in the First Park(ing) Day Orange County
SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 18 -- Public parks will be springing up overnight in several locations across Orange County as schools and local business take part in the 2008 National Park(ing) Day on September 19. This now global event started in San Francisco as a way for artists, designers and citizens to transform parking spots into park(ing) spaces – temporary public parks.
The Art Institute of California – Orange County is one of several sites in Orange County that will be participating. The Orange County chapters of the Emerging Green Builders (EGB-OC) and the American Institute of Architects and the Committee on the Environment (AIA-COTE) have collaborated to bring this event to Orange County.
The student chapter of the EGB-OC at The Art Institute will be creating a tropical park complete with a swimming pool, flamingos, trees and lounge chairs. The public is invited to stop by 3601 W. Sunflower in Santa Ana on Friday to enjoy the space.
