Asst. Academic Director for Culinary

ASSISTANT ACADEMIC DIRECTOR

DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs – Culinary 

SUMMARY:  Responsible for sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and other Academic Affairs team members. Duties include: providing support and guidance to the students in the program named above, including, student advising, and assistance with registration, open house, and orientation. Works closely with the Academic Affairs team to maintain or improve student persistence. 

KEY JOB ELEMENTS: 

1.      Assists the Academic Director in the management of the assigned academic programs to provide a quality education that meets or exceeds industry expectations. Acts as the Academic Director for the programs in the absence of the Director. Assists the Director in the preparation of the programs’ annual budgets. 

2.      Manages the program’s image within the school and the community through display of student work in designated display cases and other venues, arranging and hosting portfolio reviews, and assisting in open houses and summer teen workshops. Acts as liaison to other departments who ask for information about the programs and responds to requests for sample student work. 

3.      Assists in class scheduling and quarterly student registration and clearance process to assure successful enrollment in programs. Advises students concerning attendance, academic progress, and curriculum issues. Maintains direct contact with students, identifying and continuously updating student profile information. Maintains student academic advising files. Implements action plans to help students succeed. Communicates and coordinates with appropriate institute and community resources as needed in order to assist with student needs. Promotes and maintains positive student relations 

4.      Participates in arranging graduation ceremonies. Prepares open house packets, registration packets and performs other administrative duties in conjunction with mass communications with prospective and current students of the programs. Participates in department mid-quarter, and 12th week meeting, academic review during student orientations and all other meetings as necessary. 

5.      Monitors program screens of the AiPH web site for information integrity, updates information with the Webmaster and insures the timeliness and accuracy of changes. 

6.      Actively participates in tutoring workshops, academic workshops and like activities. 

7.      Produces daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly reports pertaining to persistence, academic performance and attendance. 

8.      Is the Academic Officer on site on a regularly scheduled basis in the evenings and on Saturdays. 

REQUIREMENTS: 

1.      A minimum of a Master’s degree. Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree should be in a program specific course of study or a field related to the field supported. Working experience in the field is also necessary. 

2.      Two years experience in a post secondary educational environment. 

3.      Ability to interact successfully with students as part of the process of addressing their concerns. Ability to learn and understand program curriculum scope and sequence, Academic Affairs department policies, and school policies in order to interpret and administer them fairly and accurately..

4.      Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. 

5.      Computer skills at a level enabling successful training in use of CARS for running reports and monitoring student records. Knowledge of MS Office word, Excel and Access. 

6.  Ability to develop in the position and eventually become an Academic Director in the Ai system of schools.

Reports to:     Academic Director for Culinary

Interacts with all levels of the AIPH organization especially students.
