POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Director of Residence Life

Department: Student Affairs

Position Summary: To manage the Housing Department budget and employees while ensuring students are properly served and provided suitable housing.

Key Job Elements:

1. Assure that The Art Institute of Philadelphia provides safe, affordable student housing.
2. Develop new student development programs.
3. Develop and maintain a Housing budget of approximately $7.5 million.
4. Forecast and review Housing Department budgets on a quarterly basis, or more often as needed.
5. Develop Housing options as determined by the Housing, Admissions, Student Affairs Departments and the President.
6. Provide support for the Resident Advisor Program. Provide oversight and guidance with respect to hiring and development of staff.
7. Oversee and assist in quarterly Housing Registration.
8. Oversee preparations for new student Housing Orientation.
9. Assist in updating the Housing Brochure, and Housing information in the Student Handbook and The Art Institute of Philadelphia Catalog.
10. Advise the Dean of Student Affairs informed of Housing issues as appropriate.
11. Handle Housing related problems referred by the Housing staff.

Organizational Relationships:
Reports to: Dean of Student Affairs
Directly Supervises: Assistant Directors of Housing
Indirectly Supervises: Housing Coordinators, Resident Advisors, Maintenance Staff

Position Requirements:

• Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or similar field of study.
• 3 – 5 years of collegiate residential experience at least 2 with management and supervisory experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills as well as good written and oral communication ability.
