Ever since her part-time job in a high school with a caterer, Betsy reports that cooking "Got into my blood!" She knew then that the culinary industry was calling to her as a potential career. However, it was not until Betsy's work in food service management and working in her own business, Catering by Betsy and Mike, that she realized that she wanted to earn her degree and advance her skills in culinary.

Betsy enrolled in the culinary arts program at The Art Institute of Philadelphia while she continued her work with her own catering business and a job as an Assistant Director with a food services management company. Though she initially started part-time, Betsy decided to dedicate herself fully to her studies and decided to quit her full-time work to become a full-time student.

Half way through her program and with the support of some her Chef Instructors, she made the move that launched her new culinary career. While in school, she went to work for the city's busiest restaurant- Buddakan as Saucier. She worked hard both inside and outside of the classroom, balancing her new position and her studies. The dedication Betsy showed allowed her to receive several Best of Quarter awards and earned her the honor of being named Best New Culinarian at the time of her graduation.

Upon graduating, she continued to work her way up the "food chain" and was promoted to Sous Chef at Buddakan. Later in her culinary career, she also worked as a Food Stylist with QVC.

Though Betsy continues to work hard as a successful Sous Chef, she has returned to The Art Institute of Philadelphia community as an educator, who motivates and encourages new culinary students! Betsy teaches Skills 1 and 2, nutrition and portfolio foundations. Betsy has become an asset to the culinary department and to The Art Institute of Philadelphia community as a whole. As a Chef Instructor, Betsy truly enjoys her job and feels, "I can help young inspiring chefs."
