Alvaro Martinez Takes First Prize in 2008 HP/Saytek and The Art Institutes National Animation Competition

Media Arts and Animation student Alvaro Martinez created Testimonials: Hell, the winning animation in the individual category of the 2008 HP/Saytek and The Art Institutes National Animation Competition.

Martinez will receive an all-expense-paid trip to SIGGRAPH 2008, August 11-14, 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. as well as an HP Workstation.  At SIGGRAPH, his work will be represented in The Art Institutes booth and he will be able to network with potential employers.

A spoof of “day-in-the-life” style documentaries, Testimonials: Hell follows Marvin (pictured), the devil’s assistant, as he goes about his daily routine.  The viewer gets to see another side of hell from the perspective of this laid-back, slightly sarcastic demon whose positive attitude towards his life -- or death -- overshadows even the most morally questionable task he has to perform.

The character of Marvin is voiced by faculty member Joe Kraus. Media Arts and Animation Academic Director Jeff Otto and student Matt Althouse provided the music for the short.
