Academic Affairs

The Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Education Department Administrative Assistants are located on the 1st floor of the Annex Building--1610 Chestnut Street.

The Dean, Associate Dean, Academic Directors, Assistant Academic Directors, Academic Advisors, and faculty are committed to providing students with an appropriate educational experience. Faculty, many of whom are professionals in the field, bring their knowledge into the classroom.

The educational process is designed to develop employable skills and professional attitudes so that graduates are prepared for their career field. It is assumed that students at The Art Institute of Philadelphia are serious about their education. They are expected to commit the time and energy necessary to get the maximum benefit from each course taken. The student should consult with instructors, Academic Advisors or their Academic Director when there is a need for additional support services.

Academic Affairs Department
The Academic Affairs Department is the heart of The Art Institute. Department administrators and faculty have been carefully recruited to assure that students receive an excellent education from high-caliber professionals.

Students attend The Art Institute to prepare for a career--to learn employable skills and professional attitudes that prepare them for the working world. Art Institute faculty and administrators are available if students need assistance or support. The Art Institute encourages students to use every resource available to get the most out of every course.

Academic Affairs Team
The Dean of Academic Affairs is the team leader and has the ultimate responsibility for all programs. Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs are the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, Academic Directors, Assistant Academic Directors, Faculty, Registrar, Librarian, Academic Achievement Center Advisors, Transfer of Credit/Articulation Agreement Coordinator, Internship Coordinator and Supply Store.

Academic Directors have direct management responsibility for specific programs of study. Supporting each Academic Director are faculty members who are specialists and professionals in their fields.

Services provided: As a team, the Dean of Academic Affairs Assistant Dean, Academic Directors, Assistant Academic Directors, Faculty, Registrar, Librarian, Academic Achievement Center Advisors, Transfer of Credit/Articulation Agreement Coordinator and Internship Coordinator are responsible for:

  • An appropriate curriculum that is periodically reviewed and updated to assure that it is consistent with the needs of potential employers
  • Academic standards and portfolio evaluation to promote excellence in the classroom
  • Art exhibitions, field-related student organizations, and show productions
  • Continued development of library and program resource materials, videos, and slides
  • Selection of appropriate training equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Prompt evaluation of transfer and/or articulation credit (of transcripts) from prior institutions
  • Academic and attendance counseling
  • Academic advising/scheduling
  • Incomplete grade forms
  • Course withdrawals
  • Registrar services.
