Transfer Students

Individuals with portfolios or previous postsecondary education are evaluated during the admissions process for potential advanced placement. Credit may be given for courses successfully completed with a grade point of 2.0 or better at other institutions where the courses are comparable to those offered by The Art Institute of Phoenix. No more than 75 percent of the total credits needed to graduate from The Art Institute will be awarded from any combination of transfer of credit, proficiency credit, and examination. Students must earn in residency a minimum of 25 percent of the total program credits required for graduation.

Students requesting transfer of credit from other schools to The Art Institute of Phoenix must present unofficial transcripts and course descriptions, if necessary, prior to matriculation. An official transcript, to be received within 30 days after matriculation in the student’s first quarter at The Art Institute of Phoenix, is essential for completion of transfer of credit. Official transcripts may be faxed from the originating institution to the Registrar. Should an official transcript not be received by the 30th day after matriculation, all credit granted from the unofficial transcript will be revoked. Courses of a technical nature or those concerning topics that are now obsolete may not be accepted for transfer of credit. Students presenting such courses for consideration may be granted transfer of credit if they can provide documentation or a portfolio of current work relevant to the course in question. Review of a portfolio for transfer of credit incurs a $100 charge payable prior to consideration. The $100 charge is non-refundable regardless of the transfer of credit decision. Transfer of credit must be applied for and approved in advance of the first quarter of study.
