Students win 2005 Annual Community Service Project of the Year
Media Arts & Animation students from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh won a statewide award for Community Service Project of the Year. “Timmy’s Journey to Understand MS,” a 12-minute animation, was created to help children of MS patients understand the disease.
The Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators (PAPSA) selected the piece to be recognized at a ceremony on July 27 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. PAPSA is a Harrisburg-based non-profit organization that works collaboratively with private colleges and government agencies to ensure quality education and ethical practices.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Allegheny District Chapter, approached The Art Institute of Pittsburgh over three years ago with the task of producing the animation. Under the supervision and guidance of Media Arts & Animation faculty member Michael Schwab, the students completed the project in a two-year process.
Josh Goodrum, Media Arts & Animation student, was eager to help. “I did it because it needed to be done. I saw something that would help children more understand about a disease that was greatly affecting their lives.”
