Take advantage of our resources to get the best results with your writing.

  • In-House Resources
  • The Writers’ Center houses a Resource Library of books and journals on writing. Grammar books are available for perusal at any time, as are Writer’s Market books, MLA Handbooks, and a variety of inspirational books on writing.

    Behind the coordinator’s desk the Resource Library continues with books to be signed out only in the Writers’ Center. There are books on writing centers, tutoring writing, writing process, writing groups and workshops, writing program administration, writing assessment, composition studies, literacy studies, and ESL in the writing classroom.

    Journals available for perusal in the Center are College Composition and Communication, College English, Journal of Teaching Writing, Research in the Teaching of English, Composition Studies, Teaching English in the Two Year College, Journal of Language, Identity and Education, Reflections: Writing, Service-Learning, and Community Literacy, Rhetoric Review, and Writing on the Edge.

Your tuition is already paying for databases like ProQuest, which provide on-line articles from expensive magazines, newspapers, and academic journals. To find the information you need for your next research project, just type in a few key words in one of these databases. Your teachers will be pleased!

Here, you can find information on MLA and APA documentation, research methods, grammar questions, explanations of different elements and processes involved in writing. Most of the The Art Institute of Pitttsburgh Writers' Center handouts come from this source.
    • International Writing Center Association: http://www.writingcenters.org/ The International Writing Centers Association website has links to writing and writers' centers around the world. Also, it has all the latest news related to writing centers and great links for tutors. Check it out.
    • Praxis: A Writing Center Journal: http://projects.uwc.utexas.edu/praxis/ This is a free on-line academic journal has articles written by some of the best writing tutors and center directors/coordinators in the world.
  • Technology
  • There are nine Mac computers and a black and white printer in the Writers’ Center available to any students or faculty whenever the center is open.

    Among the programs on the Writers’ Center computers are:

    • Microsoft Word
    • PowerPoint
    • Excelresources
    • and Safari web browser.
    • Three computers by the door have Final Draft for scriptwriters.
