Portland, OR (November 11, 2008)—Not enough snow on the mountain to get out and shred? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered and are bringing snowboarding action to the city – literally right to our backyard. Powder comes to the Pearl on November, 22 when the Art Institute of Portland, Salomon & Bonfire Snowboarding, along with all their friends at US Outdoor and Scion present: THE SECOND ANNUAL BACKYARD BANG RAIL JAM! From noon until 4 p.m. there are no lifts and no limits—as thirty of the best local and National snowboarders bang the king size jib in front of the Art Institute on Northwest Davis between 11th and 12th. Last year this event was covered by all of the local media, as well as major snow and skate magazines and websites, and there have been thousands of hits on YouTube videos posted.
The Art Institute of Portland, known for fresh design and uninhibited creativity, collides with Salomon Snowboards and Bonfire clothing to bring downtown Portland live snowboarding action and tricks, as well as the scene and style that makes a trip to Hood worthwhile. We’re bringing the creativity of the mountain to the streets of the Pearl in this professional rail jam competition.
Creativity collides with raw action at this year’s Backyard Bang. The snowboarding rail jam will consist of a preliminary qualifying round where local kids compete for a chance to go head‐to‐head with the invited pros in the finals. Riders at the 1st Annual Backyard Bang included Jed Anderson, Lucas Magoon, Chad Otterstrom, Leanne Pelosi, Nick Dirks, and Jarad Hadi among others. In addition to experiencing boarding athletes attempting tricks on the rail, there will be opportunities to win free gear and season passes to the mountain, take part in the best‐dressed boarder contest, be a part of live documentary film action/contest, hear music spun by local DJs and 94.7, have great food, and even get a bird’s eye view from the Widmer‐sponsored VIP deck. It will also be another chance for you to get to know the Art Institute of Portland and interact with students, faculty, and our admissions staff.
If you heard about, attended or saw footage of last year’s BYB in Ankeny Alley, which was aired on Comcast Sports NW, then you already know this event is not to be missed!
