Photographer David K. Brunn Provides Glimpse Through Camera
The Art Institute of Portland presents a May gallery exhibit of photographer David K. Brunn's Irish Portfolio No. 1. The work exhibited will include hand pulled photogravure prints and Owen Roe wine labels featuring the same images.
Two themes in this body of work are portraying sacred places and capturing disappearing sites in County Cavan, Ireland, where Brunn's family still lives.
Photogravure is a hand-made intaglio printing process that presses ink into paper to reproduce a photographic image. The depth of the ink, the pressure of the press, and the texture of the paper together create a soft, velvety, three-dimensional quality to the image, in contrast to a hard, shiny and flat silver gelatin print.
The exhibit runs May 6-30, with a First Thursday Opening Reception to be held from 6-8 p.m. on, May 7, 2009.
The Art Institute of Portland Gallery is at 1122 NW Davis Street, Portland, OR 97209.
Daily gallery hours are 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday to Thursday; 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Friday; and 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday.
