ADMISSIONS: HOW TO APPLY

The application process is outlined in this section. If you have any questions, you may contact the Admissions department at 503-228-6528 or 1-888-228-6528.

To begin, you'll need to write a paragraph (approximately 150 words) telling us how you think The Art Institute of Portland will help you reach your career objectives. Portfolios are encouraged, but not required. If you've taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT), you are encouraged to submit these scores for evaluation.

How to Enroll
Just fill out an Application for Admission and an Enrollment Agreement and send it to The Art Institute of Portland with a $50 application fee. We also require a $100 tuition deposit, due within 10 days after you've submitted the Agreement, and proof of your high school graduation or a GED.

If you apply online, please be aware that if you submit your application fee through an electronic check, it may take up to two weeks to process. Checks must be processed before you can start classes, therefore please plan accordingly.

Admission Procedures
Each individual who seeks admission to The Art Institute of Portland will be interviewed by an Assistant Director of Admissions.

The purpose of these interviews is to:

  • Explore your background and interests as they relate to the programs offered;
  • Assist you in identifying the appropriate area of study consistent with your background and interests; and
  • Provide information regarding curriculum offerings and support services available at The Art Institute of Portland.

What We're Looking For
The goals of the Admissions department are to:

  • Determine that there is a good match between you and the school which is based on past academic records and your written statement; and
  • Determine that the program of study you choose is appropriate based on your stated career goals. An Admissions representative may request additional information or require that you meet the Academic Department Director in the chosen program of study in order to make an accurate assessment.

Successful admission into The Art Institute of Portland and a satisfactory program start are dependent on:

  • The level of accomplishment exhibited in your written statement;
  • All your grade point averages and evaluation of your GED scores;
  • A review of the results of any nationally-based exams (preferred but not required) such as the SAT or ACT; and
  • A personal interview with an Assistant Director of Admissions meeting all other requirements stated in the Agreement.
