A great thing about Student Housing is…Having Roommates!
Perhaps the most important lessons a student will learn in college are the ones they learn outside the classroom. Figuring out how to live with someone involves respecting differences, sharing, being courteous, accepting others for who they are, and much more. Most students find that sharing space builds character.
While most first year students do miss the privacy of their homes, they also find comfort in sharing company with others who are experiencing the same issues—difficult courses, living away from home, balancing school work and social life, and a whole lot more. In fact, while there are many alternatives for roommates who don't get along, most do stick it out, and solve their problems by talking it out. There are many reasons to consider Student Housing at The Art Institute of Portland. Students live within walking distance from Ai Portland and choose from two different housing locations, ranging from private rooms to shared apartments. The application process is simple and other than the $250 Housing Deposit, it does NOT require first/last month rent, credit or background checks for students. Financial Aid may be available, and rates include:
- Apartments with kitchens (all have full size refrigerator & freezer, dishwasher), bathrooms & closets *Goose Hollow only*
- Utilities at no cost (heat, water, sewer, garbage, electricity) & 24 hour laundry rooms
- Furnishings in Goose Hollow apartment: beds, dressers, dinette table & chairs
- Furnishings in The Arthur: bed, built in unit with shelves, two drawer side table, flat desk & chair
- Secured entrances
- Live-in & live-out Professionals & Student Assistants (with on-site offices & on-call hours for emergencies)
- Maintenance & custodial services
- Activities & programs
Student Housing saves you the hassle of apartment hunting while still establishing rental history. Instead of staying at home or in a building full of strangers, you can live among your classmates (currently ranging from age 17-40), make friends and network together. Instead of sitting in traffic or waiting for a bus, you can reduce your ecological footprint and simply walk to class! You can also save money on parking (approx. $200/month), car insurance, gas, vehicle maintenance and bus fare. The benefits of Student Housing outweigh commuting and other housing options for many students.
Two major concerns for students each year are, "Where am I going to live?" and "How am I going to make friends or find a roommate?" Students contemplate these issues while parents consider security and proximity to the college to be of utmost importance.
Whether you are a student moving away from home for the first time, or you're just trying to find a new apartment in a different part of town, the Residence Life and Housing staff at The Art Institute of Portland can provide you with helpful information.
