The methodology of creating this poster began with the step of brainstorming.
I narrowed the criteria down to the two main concepts: art and life. Somehow
in this poster I had to display the need for art within life. I brainstormed
several ideas and fell upon the idea of using an EKG (ECG) readout that spelled
out the word "art". This was important because the EKG readout represented life.
To emphasize an even greater meaning for the need of art in life, I made the readout
lack life through a lack of peaks before the word art. Then, after the word art,
I added a consistent heart beat. This representation displayed how art makes life
better.
When my creative brainstorming process was complete had to decide on how I would present the idea. First, I used a few different designs that I created through vector-based graphics. However, although I was representing "life", by poster designs lacked a lot of life too them. They were too artificial looking and needed a focal point. This idea did not work out so I went back to the drawing board. I decided that I would take pictures of an EKG using a Canon G3, 4 mega pixel digital camera. At this point, I had all the tools I needed to put my idea to work; the theme, the picture, and two logos. Passion. It leads to the achievement and success for a vast array of goals. My passion is art, and among it, my love for graphic design. As a toddler I drew endless circles from border to border on big sheets of paper. Eventually, those circles transformed into heads, and those heads became the faces of pirates, bears, and other characters in my fantasy worlds. By the time I was in 3rd grade I was drawing figures on the computer in every color the palette would offer. From this point on, my interest for art and my obsession for computers grew and grew. The growth of these interests forged a new passion: graphic design. From t-shirts to magazines, my love for graphic design is endless. Although I have gone this far on my own, the next step is not to continue discovering my own tastes; it is to understand different types of design so that they can be incorporated into every detail of my work. |
