Campus Announces New Academic Director in Media Arts

The new Academic Director for the Digital Filmmaking & Video Production, Audio Production, and Digital Photography departments is Daven Gee, announced The Art Institute of California — San Francisco President Byron Chung.

“Daven brings his many talents to his new role, and we are very happy to have him directing these programs,” said Chung.

Gee has been an Adjunct Instructor with The Art Institute of California — San Francisco since 2008. He has taught such courses as Fundamentals of Video Production, Fundamentals of Producing & Directing and Portfolio II in the Digital Filmmaking & Video Production department.  Previously, Gee was an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, as well as an instructor at San Francisco City College, San Francisco State University and the Film Arts Foundation.

Gee has also served as the New Movies Lab Coordinator for the Mill Valley Film Festival, Director of Community Engagement for Katahdin Productions/Foundation, National Outreach Coordinator for a variety of independent documentaries, Segment Producer for PBS and Administrative Director of the Film Arts Foundation, among other accomplishments.

His artistic work has garnered him acclaim including the Kansas City Mastermind Award, Most Promising Filmmaker, Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Golden Gate Award (SF International Film Festival), and First Place short films at the Chicago Field Museum and Marin County Film Festival.  Gee has extensive involvement with community presentations and a wide array of published works on film.  He has also served on numerous boards as advisor, curator and board member.

Dean of Academic Affairs Joseph LaVilla, PhD, gladly accepted Gee stating, “Daven brings a breadth of knowledge and experience and we warmly welcome him to the Academic Affairs team.”
