Graphic Design Student at The Art Institute of California – San Diego Wins Surfboard Art Contest
San Diego, CA- (August 11, 2008)- FM94/9, Rusty Apparel and Surfboards, and Scion announced that Gary Jones, graphic design student at The Art Institute of California – San Diego, placed as a finalist in the “Random Acts of Art” contest.
Jones, a fourth-quarter graphic design student at The Art Institute of California – San Diego, artistically beat out 130 applicants to have a surfboard created by the “Shaper of the Year” with his unique design. As one of the ten finalists, Jones’ surfboard will be displayed at the 2008 Action Sports Retail Trade Show September 4-6 at the San Diego Convention Center and then given away at Scion dealerships to FM94/9 listeners as part of the "Ultimate Surf Ride."
While driving home from school, Jones received a call from the station to notify him that he was a finalist. “Winning this contest is a wicked awesome honor and look forward to seeing the finished product”, says Jones. As for his future plans, Jones hopes to continue to create surfboard designs and would like to work for a company such as Rusty.
“Random Acts of Art,” was an art design contest to encourage lifestyle enthusiasts to intimately connect music, art, and board-riding by soliciting up-and-coming and seasoned graphic artists to showcase their talent on their medium of a Rusty surfboard. Applicants were asked to submit original graphic art designs that creatively expressed the spirit of the three brands – FM94/9, Scion, and Rusty.
