[SAN FRANCISCO, CA, JULY 2009] - The Media Arts & Animation Department at The Art Institute of California - San Francisco has created a unique animation competition called The 7 Deadly Sins. The competition is open to all Art Institute of California - San Francisco students and alumni, working independently or in teams.
To participate, individuals and teams must sign up for one of the seven deadly sins - lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, or pride. They are then challenged to create a short film which illustrates their chosen sin. Participants have until September 14th to submit their completed film into the competition. The film can be anywhere from :20 seconds to :60 seconds in length and can be narrative, non-narrative, abstract, 3D animation, 2D animation, live action or mixed media. The films can be rated up to an R-type rating.
All of the films will be screened at the upcoming Art Institute of California - San Francisco Fall Animation Festival on Wednesday, September 23rd at the Roxie Theatre in San Francisco.
Jill Taffet , Academic Director of the Media Arts & Animation Department and the MFA graduate Computer Animation Department said "I am overwhelmed by the response. Everyone is so excited to participate in the project and stretch their creativity. Some people are working on one sin and some are working on all seven! We even have entire classes working on the project. I look forward to seeing the final entries and combining the best ones into 7 Deadly Sin Films. It will be amazing to see the work on the big screen at The Roxy."
The Art Institute Animation Festival is open to the public and will feature selected shorts entered into the 7 Deadly Sins competition, as well as a screening of the "Best of Ottawa 2008" from the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
