Students Create Wearable Works of Art with Oakley Sunglasses as the Canvas
The Oakley “Sunglasses at Night” Scholarship Competition and Gallery Exhibition
[SAN FRANCISCO, JUNE, 2009] Students at The Art Institute of California — San Francisco are getting the chance to work with a unique blank canvas: Oakley eyewear. Thirty-five students have been chosen to participate in the Oakley “Sunglasses at Night” Scholarship Competition, in which they design and add their personal touch to a pair of Oakley shades.
Oakley distributed the 35 pairs of plain white Hijinx sunglasses just 10 days before the competition deadline, giving students a tight deadline to produce these one-of-a-kind creations. With few guidelines in place, the students were given the artistic freedom they needed to showcase their vision and creative talents.
A winner will be chosen by officials from Oakley and announced at a reception at The Art Institute of California — San Francisco’s Gallery on June 6, 2009. The first-place winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship and the second-place winner will receive $500 in Oakley merchandise. All students will keep the eyewear that they create.
