Beyond Warhol's Imagination - A Tribute to Andy Warhol
[SAN FRANCISCO, MARCH, 2009] – The Art Institute of California - San Francisco and the deYoung Museum's College Night Outreach Program are excited to announce the very special gallery exhibition: Beyond Warhol’s Imagination.
Beyond Warhol’s Imagination, an exhibit held at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco’s Art Gallery, pays tribute to the pop artist, Andy Warhol. Artists from the interdisciplinary arts at San Francisco Bay Area colleges and universities will be participating in this special satellite exhibition, which looks at Warhol’s myriad of works, themes and subject matter through the lens of today’s emerging artists.
These works present a contemporary interpretation of Warhol’s art and art practices. Like Warhol, these artists look to popular culture for their themes and subject matter. Their works bring into illumination notable events, high profile personalities, and popular consumer products that reflect and characterize today’s society. Although mirroring society through art, these artists’ works seeks to capture and express Warhol’s artistic fervor and sensibility.
Beyond Warhol’s Imagination draws its inspiration from the de Young’s Museum special featured exhibition: Warhol Live, which runs from February 14th through May 17th 2009. Warhol Live explores the musical influences and its impact on Warhol’s art and persona throughout his art career.
Beyond Warhol’s Imagination will be featured at The Art Institute of California - San Francisco's Art Gallery from April 30th through June 5th. The opening reception at the Art Institute of California - San Francisco will be held on April 30th from 5:00pm - 9:00pm.
In addition, the de Young Museum is also hosting Warhol Now and Then as part of their College Night Series. This one-time event, being held May 8th from 5:45pm – 8:45pm at the de Young Museum, compliments the current de Young exhibit, Warhol Live, as well as Beyond Warhol’s Imagination at the satellite exhibit at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco.
Artist submissions for Beyond Warhol’s Imagination are due April 3rd. For more information, visit: http://collegenightsatellite.nexusartreach.org/Home
