Students and Industry Come Together for One-Day Design Competition

[Schaumburg, May 12, 2009] – Sunday is a relaxing day for most college students. Not so on Sunday, April 26, when students at The Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumburg vied for trophies, gift certificates, software and glory during the annual one-day graphic design competition known as Square One.

Students received a graphic design problem at 9 a.m. and then had until 6 p.m. to analyze the problem, create, print and mount their solutions. This year’s design problem centered around an imaginary documentary of three hopefuls aiming to win the Ultimate Fighter Competition. Armed with bios and other film information, each student created their own CD case, cover and informational leaflets, as well as a poster and flyer promoting the movie. Much of the imagery available to the participants was provided by fellow student Colin Beckett, a Digital Photography student at the College.
