Student Housing: Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be my roommates?
As much as possible, roommates are assigned based on the common interests, major, and habits you indicate on your Residence Life and Housing application. But that doesn't mean you'll live with other people who are exactly like you. So, come with an open mind and expect to meet great people, be challenged, learn about others, and have fun.

Is parking available?
Yes, parking is free at the apartment complexes; however, students must register their cars with the Residence Life and Housing office and obtain a parking permit.

Can I receive accommodations for my disability in Residence Life and Housing?
If you are a student who has a documented disability, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, you may be eligible to receive housing accommodations. You should first go through the enrollment process and apply for housing. When you have completed these steps, the Disability Services Coordinator will work with you regarding your request for accommodations.

How can I meet other Residence Life and Housing students?
The Resident Assistants (RAs) coordinate activities and programs every quarter to help residents get to know one another. You will receive a monthly calendar listing of all the month’s activities when you move in. You may also want to think about joining the Apartment Council if you would like to assist with planning activities for residents.

What if I don't have a car?
The public transportation system, PACE, provides bus service throughout suburban Chicago. There is a PACE bus stop near the housing facility. You can also utilize PACE's Dial-a-Ride option, which is a point-to-point service. Dial-a-Ride offers students an opportunity to be picked up from one particular location and dropped off at another specific location.

Are there facilities for washing and drying my clothes?
Yes, two washers and two dryers are located in the lower level of each building. Bring your quarters.

Is there Internet access in my apartment?
Unfortunately, Internet access is not included in the quarterly fee. You may set up Internet access on your own through the local cable company when you arrive.

May I have guests in my apartment?
Guests are welcome during visiting hours, as long as they don't disturb other students in the apartment. Visitation is a privilege, so it's important that students follow all policies and respect their roommate(s).

What should I bring?
Aside from personal items, you may want to bring linens for a twin bed, towels, kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, telephone, microwave, and any entertainment items (TV/stereo).
