Summer camp preparing kids for careers

Schaumburg, Ill. – When most people think of summer camp, they picture pools and creeks, arts and crafts and outdoor sports. But for some kids, it’s serious business. More than 168 high school students are going to give college a try at The Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg Summer Studio, a week-long camp that gives kids a sneak peek at the college experience.
For one week, high school sophomores, juniors and seniors take concentrated classes in a course of study within the areas of design, media arts, fashion and culinary. The courses are taught by instructors from The Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg. At the end of the week students present their portfolios. Students can enroll in any of the areas of study offered by the college. The intensive program gives the students an opportunity to give college a test-run and allows them to hone their artistic skills.
“Summer Studio provides these students an opportunity to see what kind of curriculum they can expect in college and really helps relieve some anxiety about entering this new stage in their lives,” says The Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg President David Ray.
Summer Studio at The Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg runs June 21 – 25. For more information, visit www.summerstudio.com/schaumburg or contact Natalia Derevyanny at 312-777-8640 or email@example.com.
