The Art Institutes & Macromedia Student Design Contest 2005

•  DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTEST:

The Art Institutes and Macromedia Student Design Contest 2005 is a skill promotion designed to encourage the development of outstanding web pages using Macromedia® Dreamweaver®, Flash®, Flash® Professional, or Director® products (the “Macromedia Software”). Entrants can use one or any combination of such Macromedia Software. A free trial download of each of these software products will be available during the promotion period. All entrants must be full-time students currently enrolled at The Art Institutes.

•  HOW TO ENTER:

Submissions will be accepted from 12:00 AM (Pacific Time) March 15, 2005 through 11:59 PM (Pacific Time) June 24, 2005 and you may choose the format, content and design, provided your site does not infringe any third party rights, and is not obscene, defamatory or offensive. Put your entry on a CD-ROM, fill out the submission form, and include your complete name, your email address, your date of birth, your school name (and campus, if necessary), address, phone number, your current grade level or status at institution, your major or area of focus, the URL of your web site (if it is posted), and a brief description of your entry, including strategies, goals and which Macromedia software you used to create your digital experience. Entries should be submitted to Kelly O'Neill, AiS Director of Public Relations, north campus, Alaskan Way level.

By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Art Institutes and Macromedia, which shall be final in all respects on all aspects pertaining to this promotion. All entries must be original, and by entering you hereby assert that nothing in your entry infringes on any copyrights or trademarks, or violates any person's rights of privacy or publicity. All entries should display a copyright notice, for your protection. Macromedia assumes no responsibility if for any reason, your web site cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned. Macromedia is not responsible for any errors in contest related materials, or lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete or illegible entries. Limit one entry per category (three entries total, one for each category). You cannot submit an entry in more than one category, and you must submit each entry separately.

•  ELIGIBILITY:

This contest is open to residents of the 50 United States , the District of Columbia and Canada (excluding Quebec ) who are 14 years of age or older and full-time students enrolled at The Art Institutes. Void in Quebec and where prohibited by law. All winners will be required to execute an affidavit swearing to compliance with these eligibility requirements. Employees of Macromedia, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, agencies and assigns, and their immediate family members (spouse and parents, children and siblings, and their spouses) as well as individuals living in the same household of each are not eligible. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and provincial laws and regulations.

•  CATEGORIES/JUDGING:

The Art Institutes and Macromedia will choose winners in two categories: (1) Web Design; and (2) Animation. Each Art Institutes campus will have two winners, one in each category, chosen by qualified Art Institutes faculty at each individual campus. All of the school winners will be entered into the running for the grand prize in their respective categories. Macromedia will award two (2) grand prizes, one in each category. Each digital experience will be judged based on the following criteria (the summaries following each criteria are for descriptive purposes only):

    1. Creativity/Ingenuity: 25%. Is the entry creative, unique and inventive? Does the entry employ interesting user interface or interactive techniques?
    2. Design/Functionality: 25%. Does the entry achieve its goals? Is the entry intuitive to use? Does the entry allow the user to do something? Can the user give and receive?
    3. Theme/Content: 25%. Is there a consistent graphic identity scheme? Does the entry effectively use space and movement? Does the content fit the design?
    4. Technical Achievement: 25%. Does the entry maximize or extend the use of the Macromedia tool? Does the entry make use of multiple media types and promote user interactivity?

 

•  PRIZES AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES:

A copy of Studio MX 2004 with Flash Professional will be awarded to each winner. (Approximate retail value, $999.00 for each copy of Studio MX 2004 with Flash Professional). Each grand prize winner (total 2) will be awarded a Multimedia Package (PC, Software, iPOD). Approximate retail value is $2,000.00. Winners will be chosen by a committee composed of Macromedia representatives and/or guest judges from outside Macromedia, at Macromedia's discretion, to select and notify the grand prize winner. Prizes include only those items specifically listed as part of the prize. By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules, and the decisions of Macromedia, which shall be final in all respects.

•  CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:

Winners will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and, where legal, a Publicity Release within 14 days of first attempted notification. In the event of non-compliance with these requirements, Winner's entry will be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected at Macromedia's discretion. For those prize-winners who are less than the age of majority in their state or province, the affidavit and release will have to be signed by the winner's parent or legal guardian. All entrants agree to permit Macromedia to use their entries for Macromedia marketing/advertising materials in perpetuity and for any and all purposes. All winners will receive promotion on Macromedia's Web site. Submissions remain the property of the entrants; however, by entering, entrants also agree to the use of the winner's name and likeness for purposes of advertising and promotion without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Macromedia, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in this contest or acceptance or use of any prize. With the people's choice voting, voting is limited to one vote per person in each category and age group. Votes must be submitted by a human being; no computer generated votes or votes submitted through the use of any application or script. Macromedia reserves the right to award prizes in the people's choice category to individuals who, in its discretion, are the winners if in Macromedia's sole discretion, the voting is disrupted or altered in any way, or in anyway unfair or in violation of these rules.

•  INTERNET:

Sponsor assumes no responsibility for technical, hardware or software failure of any kind, for lost network connection or for garbled computer transmissions. If for any reason, programs are not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, and unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor which corrupt or affect administration, security, fairness, integrity, or discretion, Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, alteration of entries. Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail to be received by Sponsor on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to the participant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this promotion. If for any reason your submission cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or technical failures, Sponsor assumes no responsibility. Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions.

•  PUBLICATION OF WINNERS:

After the contest has concluded, the winners will be published on the Macromedia web site at www.Macromedia.com/resources/student. A list of winners may also be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Macromedia Inc., Art Institutes Student Design Contest -Winners, 601 Townsend Street , Cube #1949, San Francisco , CA 94103-4907 , to be received by August 23, 2005.
