Student Designers Showcase Creative Threads in Fashion Olympiad
Fashion took to the stage in a dramatic way at The Art Institute of Seattle's annual fashion
show on March 17, at the Moore Theatre. From glammed up formal gowns to downtown preppie punk,
there was no restraint on creativity. Twenty-five students and graduates of the fashion program
unveiled their original designs with a cast of time warp peculiars - from French maids to
gladiators - introducing various collections of fashion.
Garments were judged before the show by professionals working in the fashion industry including
Nate Torion, Junior Designer at Pacific Trail; Patti Revoyr, Senior Technical Designer and Sourcing
Manager; and Nikki deRelle, Technical Designer for Eddie Bauer, with awards handed out to seven
top student designers.

Sarah Jenny received the Formal Wear design in the 2005 show.
The show was directed by Art Institute of Seattle instructor Bob Hughes, who conjured the anachronistic
characters. “I looked at the clothes and created a story around them,” he said.
The theatrical storyline was intended to give the audience something to watch while the clothes
and models were preparing for their strolls on the catwalk. Additionally, Hughes cast real people as models.
